M.Sc. Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Shandong Agricultural University
Ph.D. Genetics, Institute of Microbiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences
As a little boy growing up on the riverside, Xu was destined to see the ocean. However, there are mountains on the way. In the Shandong Agricultural University, he studied Food Science and Microbiology. Xu got a PhD degree in Genetics from the Institute of Microbiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing. Then he got a job in the Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Qingdao, China. After about one-year post-doctoral experience in the USA, Xu joined the Marine Microbiomics Lab. His research interests focused on microbial communication and metabolic regulation. Xu will study microbial interactions and signaling between diatoms and their microbiome using a variety of omics techniques. Besides the academic pursuits, he is also fond of poetry and photography, just to record life.
